Today’s Scripture Reading

Isaiah 19 – An oracle concerning Egypt. Behold, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence, and the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them.

Scripture of the Week

Build a strong foundation for how a follower of Christ should think and respond based on the Word of God. Read over the following verse at least once a day for the next week:

Romans 12:1-2 – I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Sermon Text

Five ways to handle the trials of life

James 1:2-3 – Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

I. Having a joyful attitude: James 1:2

II. Having an understanding mind: James 1:3
– Knowing: Mark 13:28, Testing, Endurance/Patience

III. Hearing the testimonies of others: Hebrews 11:32-40

IV. Holding to God’s provision of security
– We are secure because of the power of God: John 10:28, 6:39, 10:29
– We are secure because of the promise and prayers of Christ: John 17:12, 18:9, Luke 22:31-32, 1 John 2:1, Hebrews 7:25
– We are secure because of the presence of the Holy Spirit of promise: Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30, John 14:16

V. Hope secured: Psalms 37:28, 2 Timothy 1:12, 4:18, 1 Peter 1:5, Jude 1:24

Prayer Focus

“It is God’s will, through his wonderful grace, that the prayers of his saints should be one great and principal means of carrying on the designs of Christ’s kingdom in the world. When God has something very great to accomplish for his church, ‘tis his will that there should precede it the extraordinary prayers of his people.”
